The 2006 GS Nationals plates . . . it does not get any better than this
Letters will be going out to owners of the 2004 numbers very shortly. Please reply by April 15th if you want to purchase the 2005 version. This the 25th anniversary of the GS Nationals will be a special event, so we have a particulary nice plate this year. Thanks Paul and Mary.
How these great plates came to be:
1996 ![]()
In Illinois the Secretary of State promotes the use of 60 day event plates to create revenue for the state coffers. Frank Jackowiak had the vision for our club to design and display such plates for the 1996 GS Nationals. Paul Vilser provided the graphic design for the 1996 set of plates, using his personal cars, as perfect examples of going Fast with Class. The 1970 Saturn yellow GSX and Black 1987 Turbo T shown on the plates were first sketched by Paul, then scanned into an Apple computer where they were formatted as the State required. Frank had 100 copies of the plates made the first year. We all loved these plates, demonstrated by how quickly they sold..

1997
The Secretary of State indicated there was a problem with the 1997 drawing. Paul and Frank thought it might be the obvious drag racing scene. The white Turbo Regal versus the red GS Stage 1 makes a great scene for the Nationals. As it turned out the plate background color and the graphic relationship to the numbers must be switched annually. Therefore a last minute redesign had to be performed. Two hundred copies of these plates were made.

1998
![]()
Paul designed the plates returning to the white background with a drive in scene. The Chicagoland Chapter's first meetings were held at Strats, making this a great plate showing the cruise scene. Excellent choice of cars with the blue GS convertible and the Turbo Regal. These plates saw more rain at the GS Nationals than you could believe.

1999
The forth of these series of plates, for 1999 we returned to a wheat background with the cars on the right side of the plate. This is the forth in this series of plates. As Paul predicted at the 1996 GS Nationals we will have our garages lined with these fantastic plates. Particularly liked the wheels up action. Unfortunately the GS Nationals were later so we were selling plates about to expire. Nether the less these series of plates remains a favorite tradition.

2000
The GS Nationals Plate for 2000 was a hit, and a refreshing departure from the car scene. Members who waw a preview of the plate artwork at the BOPC swap meet and April's meeting liked the fresh new look. It offers the tradition of old Gus in a new setting that cannot be beat.
2001
Presenting the GS Nationals Plate for 2001 with a fresh new look on a familiar scene. By popular demand Paul Vilser brought the cars back. Take a look at the 1996 plates (yes it was that long ago) and you will see these are again Paul's cars in a different color. Cannot wait until June 1st to bolt these on the cars.
2002

Here were the three choices originally voted on. The right hand plate design with slight modifications were presented on our GS Nationals Tee Shirts.
2003
This being Buick's 100th anniversary we went with a lithograph style plate with our favorite two cars. Please thank Jason Rickey for the design this year.
2004
What can I say it just does not get any better than this.
