CCGSCA Christmas Party | Corner
Clubhouse Bar and Grill Woodridge, IL |
Our fifth annual Christmas Party was great. We had 68 members and their guests celebrate the holiday season with us. Thanks to Rick the owner of the Bar and Grill, we got to see Nats videos on the big screen TV, enjoyed a great meal and participate in Karoke afterward. Some of us unfortunately did not leave until 2:00 AM, since we had such a great time.

Meeting
and Technical Session
|
PT&E
/ Hebron, IN
|
Harry Hruska had us out at his shop to kick off the first of the series Technical Sessions. As always this was a great session. Harry shared the reasons for the major increase in speed of Joe's car, and a lot of facts. John Spina gave us the latest tips on our wiring harnesses. Dan Stezo answered a few details on our engines and Joe Lubrant gave us the latest on the software side of performance.
| October 29 , 2000 | Dragracing | Byron Dragaway |
Planning a outdoor event on Halloween weekend is always risky. The weather smiled on us again with great Turbo weather for this great racing event. We had 30 cars participating with 11 cars in bracket 1. The racing was great for our 37 spectators.
October 15 , 2000 Breakfast Meeting Corner Club Bar and GrillOur October 15th Breakfast Meeting at Corner Club Bar and Grill was blessed with more great weather for driving our cars of summer. We had 29 folks come out to enjoy the food offered by the place we are having our Christmas Party at. A good time was had by all. Is hard to tell if Rich had more fun driving his GSX there or taking the ribbing from many members about the streetable low eleven second maching.
BCA's Saturday, October 14th Car Show at Marquardt Buick in Barrington could not have been better. Various Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs and Cadillacs from the 30's and up were all well represented on this sunny 75 degree day. Mr & Mrs Trophy (Wayne and Marilyn) took the A & G body class with the great Maroon Turbo T. The Buick concept car the Blackhawk was on display. With 30s styling, 90s Riviera leather interior and fuel injected Buick 455 with LT 80 E transmission on a Corvette C4 frame this is a winner.
October 8 , 2000 Dragracing Rte 66 Our Sunday October 8th Drag race event got cancelled by Rte 66 due to the cold weather. Many of our members went on to Byron. Unfortunately Paul Vilser broke a rear axle trying for an 11.20 quarter mile. Fortunately it happened in the burn out box, so no body damage was done.
Our Saturday night cruise on October 7th at Denny’s in Mokena, IL was quite chilly. With temperatures in the low 40's we did not hang around outside too long.
September 15, 16 & 17, 2000 Midwest Challenge U.S. 41 DragwayOur third annual Midwest Challenge on September 15, 16 & 17 was the best one yet. The Indiana Chapter being an integral part of the festivities gave up the best car show ever, and the drag racing could not be beat. Many of our very fast members were on the disabled list, giving our regular racers excellent opportunities to show off their stuff.
Our Friday night cruise on September 8th at GG’s Cuisine and Roselle train station was very well attended. It was great seeing the gang out in force showing off the great Performance Buicks. Mr Cruise Chris Gatch should be proud of our turn out.
The Tuesday night cruise in Plainfield, IL on August 29th was a great event for all southsiders to consider. There was an excellent display of cars over several blocks and a couple of city parking lots. This is good as it gets. There is a great selection of restaurants to chose from and the varity of cars to look at were great.
The August 23rd cruise at Strats, was a bust. It seems there is feud between Stats and the village, so the adjacent parking lot was waging war on older cars parked there by towing them away and changing a fortune to retrieve them. Not a good situation so we suggest going only into the main lot if you are adventurous to go.
Saturday August 12th as a great day to be outside for the CCGSCA Picnic. We had 28 members and their cars for great eating and fun.
Thursday, August 10 about 15 members meet at Al’s Diner at 56 Orland Square Dr.; Orland Park, IL . Chris Gatch got another trophy
Friday, August 4 about 25 members meet at Mickey’s Gyros at 7101 S. Harlem Ave.; Bridgeview, IL. A great place to look at cars and bench race to your hearts content. The food is excellent there.
Wednesday, Aug. 2 was Buick/GS/GN night in Lemont, IL. This is a great cruise night with lots of cars to look at.
Saturday, July 19 was the Brookfield Car Show. Our chapter had great representation and cleaned up with trophies in both 80 stock and modified classes, and the great dark blue 63 Riv taking a trophy as well.
July 16, 2000 Dragracing Great Lakes Dragaway This was our first racing event at Union Grove, Wisconsin in several years. Was a little disapointed with the turn out from our Wisconsin members who have been requesting we try this track again. Since the Jr. Dragsters have the track until 2:00 PM, we advised members not to arrive until around noon. For the 15 cars who participated it was great.
| July 4, 2000 Tuesday | Woodridge Gorilla Days | Wilton Industries / Woodridge, IL |
CCGSCA's big car show Co-sponsored with the Woodridge Police Department to promote buckling your seat belt was the best ever. Frank and the Woodridge Police Department worked hard to put together the best goodie bag which CCGSCA members packed. We had 204 cars register with an additional 25 great cars lurking. Great dry day.

Dragway Byron, IL
|
About a dozen members braved the rainy day on June 4th for the third race of the series at Byron Dragway. Congradulations to Tommy Turbo with his Speed-Pro equipped GN got his 9.98 second pass at 136 mph. Chairman Mark Holda skillfully guided the few determined racers to a lot of fun. The match between Paul and Ken is heating up again, but a new player in the equation Jason is really mixing it up. We did not get the final round in so will try to finish this one up at the test and tune before the next race. Sure hope Linda does not come down with a cold from the cool damp day.

We had a chance to raise our Buicks on the lifts to ask the suspension experts about hooking up at the drag strip. Roger Van-Scoyk did an excellent job. Charlie Evans was gracious enough to give us excellent hand outs.

Fifth
Annual
Samatha Rix Memorial Race |
Byron
Dragway
|
It started out looking like a rainy day with the storm we passed through going to the track. It was an excellent day for 66 members of our chapter who entered 25 cars into the races for the day. Our race chairwomen Liz and Kim Stasiak did an excellent job of keeping us racers on the straight and narrow while having fun. This race goes a long way to honor Samatha Rix who really helped our first few spring events get off to a great start.

Meeting and Technical Session
Featuring: Jimmy's Transmissions |
Ramada
Inn Grand Court
Mundelein, IL 60060 |
Jimmy Hussion and Tommy Hull gave us a lot of time to help us understand how to push all the horsepower reliability through the 200 4R. This transmission was originally designed in the late 1970 when factors of design safety were extreme. Rated at only 330 ft. lbs. of torque we nearly double this and with some carefully selected components and skilled builders, we can run them in our Turbo Buicks or street rods.

Sunday
|
Wheaton, IL |
The annual Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, & Cadillac Swap Meet at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton was heldon Sunday March 26, 2000. Our local Chapter of the BCA ran the event. Steve Kelley and his group's efforts really to publisize the event paid off with record number of vendors and folks out looking for those parts. It it keeps growing this thing will outgrow the building. There were lots of Buick parts for sale there. CCGSCA had a club booth there and we had a great time talking with all the members who stopped by.

Our March 12th meeting was held at Casper's Electronics, Inc. This was our greatest technical session with an all star cast including John Spina, Tony DeQuick, Harry Hruska, Joe Lubrant with a brief appearance by Jimmy with Jimmy's Transmissions. If this was not enough we had Guy Arnold from TRX and Dennis Butt and Tom Slodkowski with Pro Trac Turbo Specialities. All aspects of our cars from the electrical systems, (time for that electrical spring cleaning), to heat exchangers (intercoolers, and radiators) through turbos and fuel management were covered. Great question and answer session.

February 13th was time for our annual Trek to Andresen Engine Development in Woodstock. In our short business meeting we elected the same officers for another year, and turned the our attention to Tom and his crew for the afternoon. We had 35 members brave the snow to witness the engine dyno, how to balance a crankshaft, how to find cracks with magnaflux, saw Tom Rix stage 2 motor, and lots of other great technology for making our V8 powered Buicks the quickest on the street. Great meeting and session.

James C McGowan owner of the Quadshop in Rockford, IL presented very useful information on rebuilding and tuning our favorite carburetor the Quadrajet. Everthing from finding useful cores, to the rebuilding process and things that wear out was covered. The hangers and rods that are available for super tuning were covered as well. Jim came with a GSX model and a number of era Buick advertisements that we raffled off.
Mike Phillips owner of Automotive Machine & Performance in Owensboro, KY and Charlie Evans covered all aspects of Buick engines from what to look for on the harmonic balancer and new ones available, porting of cylinder heads, rod reworking to cranks and block machings tip that should be taken into account.
