Race series trophies were awarded to Tom Slodkowski for first place bracket one, Scott Pitts for best reaction time and second place bracket two, John Soffietti for third place bracket two, Paul Brelie, for second place bracket three and Dennis Butt for the fastest reported ET. This was a great conclusion to our race series.

The Midwest Challenge was still a lot of fun for all the area performance Buick fans. Lots of very quick Buicks, great food, and plenty of time to visit the vendors and Shari's crew while waiting for the track to dry. Unfortunately the rain caused a wash out Friday night and Saturday. Sunday started out foggy, it cleared off to 1/8 mile race on street tires at 11:00 am, with the program starting at noon. We had 84 racers and over 100 spectators who enjoyed the great afternoon for the car show and racing.

Tony DeQuick hosted our Technical session
with the latest in radiator, and intercooler technology for GS as well at Turbo
Regal fans. He has a lot of exciting new products comming out that was introduced
at this meeting. Some will be available at the Nationals. He has a three pass
aluminum radiator for those hard to cool Turbo Regals, and a single pass aluminum
radiator for 455 GS's. The new stock location streach intercooler is close to
a front mount in performance, without the potential for overheating. Very interesting
and he answered many questions to help individuals with their particular problems.

Our a session on Appraisals and Valued Insurance for Buicks, went very well. The representative from Rally Insurance was very knowledgible and gave excellent advise on how to protect our investment. Insurance like andy tool, must be chosen with care and our expectations in event of loss. They are definately specialty car insurance experts. Mike Grippo a qualified appraiser appraised cars all day and we will have the numbers in a couple of weeks. About 60 folks enjoyed themselves at the session. We had food since the event went on so long.

| January 10, 1999 | Meeting and Tech Session | Resource Center | |
| Sunday at 11:00 am | Woodridge, IL |
The recollections of Steve Ledger and Dave Hartman who answered the call of Richard Lassiter to the first meeting at Bowling Green, KY, were very interesting. Since the interstates were not completed in 1981, it was quite a fun drive in a performance Buick in Southern Indiana and Kentucky. A couple of years later a dedicated group in Central Illinois formed an early Chapter. The principal members were Ken and Lisa Stasiak, Scott Liable, Mike Cunningham and Bob Bakenwell from Central Ilinois. Active Chicago area members included Gary Annicks, Greg Stilp, Tom Mogler and Johnny Gribble. This group formed the chapter to promote Buick events, which were rare at that time.
The nomination committee announced candidates for the 1999 volunteers. We will have a vote on these nominations at the February meeting.
