December 6, 1997 CCGSCA Christmas Party COMSI COMSA
Saturday at 6:00 pm at 1:00 am the party was going strong Chicago, IL 60638

Roger and Bronia Van-Scoyk were excellent hosts for the Chicagoland GSCA Christmas Party. Held at COMSI COMSA. a Chicago neighborhood bar, approximately 70 members and their guests attended. Bronia provided excellent roast beef sandwiches and many of our members were up to the challenge of bringing in tasty dishes for the judging. We wish to congratulate Bronia for best side dish - Poor man's pirogue, Ron Kristin for best appetizer - taco dip, and Jeff and Jill Ferraro for best dessert - a decadent bananas foster. Mark Holda should get the award for having the only Turbo Regal at the event, though we saw a couple going down Archer Avenue, and Barb's rum balls were great. Wish to extend a thanks to Wayne and Marilyn Bachar for helping organize the food and the judging.

Having video tapes of the Buicks at Bristol (Inside Drag Racing) and of past GS Nationals running behind the bar turned out to be a great hit and brought back many fond memories on a cold winter evening. This combined with great bench racing of our own Buicks, the Miller products and of course the food provided great entertainment. Shari and I would like to thank all who attended making this a successful party, and hopefully enjoyed the merriment as much as we did on this Christmas season

November 9, 1997 Meeting and Tech Session Resource Center
Sunday at 11:00 am   Woodridge, IL

Tony DeQuick, cooling engineer and creator of his own Turbo Regal intercooler and radiator with Charged Air Systems gave us an excellent presentation on heat exchangers. Not only did he describe what works for intercoolers, but went into details on radiators, oil coolers and electric driven fans to move air across the various heat exchangers we have in the front of our Turbo Regals. This was a great event and we all learned a lot. I am sure we will need a follow up session to keep up with the emerging technologies. Devin plans on publishing some notes from the session in the next Fast Times issue after he has a chance to review details with Tony . We also had a Trunk swap meet in the parking lot beforehand

October 19, 1997 Octoberfest U.S. 41 Dragway
Sunday   Moroco, IN

The US 41 race date was a success.  We had about 60 Buick entrants, plus the best off Buick spectators. We had 140 hot dogs and ran out-- nuf said? The Day was sunny, with the temps in the high 60s.  Track hooked great! More cars set all time best times, than those that did not. The Quick 8, looked like a Who's Who of Buicks.  Some great looking cars--it could have been a car show!

Allan Whitter with his beautiful grey T-Type, ran a best of  8.71!
Bob Peterson, with 'Six Shooter' ran a best of  8.87!
Randy Akins turbo-vette ran an 8.10 @  170 MPH!
Dave Catalano ran a best of 10.27, in his WE4!
Joe Lubrant ran a best of 10.30 with 131 MPH!. . . . won it
Joe Harrington had a best of 10.63 with his stock blocked T-Type!
Guy Arnold ran a best of 10.48 @ 131 MPH in his new tubbed 87 T-Type!
Clarence Hardy had best of 11.06 in his beautiful '69 Chevelle, with a Lingenfelter engine, but he wishes he had prepared a Buick!
Forgot his name, but a yellow '69 GS big block ran a 9.90!
Paul Vilser with his WE4 show car  had a 11.82!
I even had a best of 12.49 @ 110 MPH!!  I know...I'm getting there!

I'm sure I missed a bunch, but these are all their best runs ever!!!   US 41 was really hooking.

We would like to thank all 60 entrants for attending, and a special thanks to those people who came a great distance to attend (Minn., Virginia, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan and of course from all over Indiana & Illinois).   Thanks to Shari Bonecutter and Joanne Mogler for being such great hostesses, and everyone else who volunteered to help to make this a really good event.. We also want to thank Harry Hruska from Precision Turbo for putting it together and doing the Race Chairman job.  Thanks Harry!

Watch for a bigger and better event there next Fall.

October 12, 1997 Meeting & Technical Session Precision Turbo & Engine
Sunday at 11:00 am   Hebron, IN

Well it went VERY WELL!  We had about 55 - 60 people there.  Harry Hruska had the place looking good.  Moved about 5 Fast cars out into the parking lot and set-up classroom style seating arrangments.  His new location is great!  About 4 or 5 times larger than his old place in Lynwood, Ill.  It's well organized, nice spacious office-computer room, and the other sections are clean, well decorated & organized.  They are working on their engine Dyno, and will eventually have a chassis dyno. Very professional operation!  They are looking for a "few good men" to add to their team---so?

Harry talked for about 3 hours with a 15 min break, and covered some of their new & old products: front cover,; oiling system: front mount IC: stock appearing 3 stage wastegate actuator; New thrust bearing for Turbos: Main caps: FelPro engine managment system.   Discussed, turbos, injectors, Heads, waste gates, checking fuel delivery systems vs. potential HP, fuel pumps, and of course the stock ECM vs DFI vs FelPro Systems.

Harry was very infomative, as usual, and he and his crew made everyone very welcome.  Ah! That Hoosier hopitality is great!!

He had an Open House and Sale after the Tech Session.  His co-workers and family had a big spread of food.  His Mother told a couple stories on her 'big shoot' son. (G).  The customer's cars and attendee's cars made for an awesome car show.  Had to be at least one 7 sec car, and 6 or 7 sub 11 sec cars, plus John Spina's Cobra, and a bunch of good looking Black cars.

He had a SUPER SALE on some items.  If you are thinking about Front Mount IC; injectors: SX pump etc., give him a call TODAY! Sale ends on Oct 14th.

The Chapter had flyers for our Race dates, Oct 19th at US 41, and Oct 26th at Byron Dragway; plus Tony DeQuicks Cooling Tech Session on Nov 9th.  You all are welcome, of course.  Come join the fun!

The BS Session continued on well into the late afternoon. Beautiful Fall day, with all kinds of Buick nuts.  Most planned on going to our Race date at US 41, on the 19th.  Harry indicated he was going to have a Quick 8, or Quick 16, with a payout of about $500 for 1st, and $250 for 2nd.  Call him for details on this.  He is the Race Chairman for the US
41 event.  His number is 219-996-7832.

Well, that "BUICK FIX' will hold us for a week!  (G)
